Overview
If you hold a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa, you may have the option to extend your visa to continue your stay in the UK. It is recommended to apply for the extension before your current visa expires. To be eligible for the extension, you must have registered as a director or self-employed within six months of receiving permission to stay under the Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa. Additionally, you need to provide evidence of being self-employed, a member of a partnership, or a director of a business for at least three months prior to applying. Furthermore, you must have created a minimum of two full-time jobs that have been in existence for at least 12 months and demonstrate the ability to continue supporting yourself financially.
The investment amount required for extending your visa depends on the level of funds specified in your initial application. It can be either £200,000 or £50,000 in cash. It is important to note that your partner or children, if applicable, need to submit separate applications to extend their visas. They can apply concurrently with you or at any time prior to the expiry of their current visa.
Before applying for the Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa extension, it is advisable to thoroughly review the comprehensive guidance provided.
In terms of fees, the cost of applying for the extension is £1,292 if you apply within the UK and £1,036 if you apply from outside the UK.
Providing biometric information and supporting documents
When applying for your visa, you will be required to schedule an appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point. During this appointment, you will provide your biometric information, including fingerprints and a photo. In addition to that, you will need to submit your supporting documents, which can be done by either uploading them through the online service or having them scanned at your UKVCAS appointment.
It is important to note that until you receive a decision on your application, you must not travel outside of the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man. If you do travel, your application will be withdrawn.
If you require assistance with completing the online form, there is support available. This service is especially helpful if you lack confidence in using a computer or mobile device or if you don’t have internet access. However, it’s important to remember that this service is only applicable if you are applying to extend your visa within the UK. Please note that this service does not provide immigration advice.
How long it takes
After submitting your application, a decision will typically be reached within 8 weeks. However, in certain cases where the application is deemed complex, it may take longer. If your application falls under this category, you will be contacted and informed about the reasons for the extended processing time. This could involve the need for verification of your supporting documents, an interview requirement, or considerations related to your personal circumstances, such as a criminal conviction.
While waiting for a decision, you are permitted to remain in the UK as long as you submitted your application before the expiration of your previous visa.
